Prince Harry In Exile After Public Attacks on Royal Family, Experts Claim
Prince Harry is reportedly coming to terms with the consequences of publicly criticizing his family, as royal experts claim his self-imposed “exile” has left him increasingly isolated. According to British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard, the Duke of Sussex did not fully grasp the fallout his actions would have when he openly spoke against the Royal Family.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Chard said, “A self-assured, self-titled, angry Prince Harry thought it was completely OK to publicly verbally annihilate his family.” She continued, “It is said he was naïve and didn’t realize it would upset his family… He didn’t realize that his actions would cause such a fallout with his family and the public.”
Harry’s decision to step back from royal duties in 2020 alongside Meghan Markle, and their subsequent interviews and media projects—including the Oprah Winfrey tell-all and the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan—led to a deep rift between the Sussexes and the Royal Family. The couple’s allegations of institutional neglect and racism within the monarchy sparked intense controversy, further straining their relationships with King Charles III, Prince William, and other senior royals.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams also weighed in on the situation, telling Fox News Digital that Harry is now living in “exile”, though it was a choice he made. “Harry is in exile – [but] he chose it. It’s lonely, and he will undoubtedly miss his friends and family,” Fitzwilliams explained.
He further noted that there appears to be no movement toward reconciliation.
“There is no sign whatsoever of the rift in the royal family healing. King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales have, to put it mildly, other priorities,” he added. Despite occasional attempts to reconnect—including Harry’s brief visits to the UK—royal insiders suggest the damage done may be irreversible.
Meanwhile, King Charles and Prince William have remained focused on their royal duties, with the King recently addressing his own health battle while continuing his commitments. The Prince and Princess of Wales, too, have maintained their public engagements, showing no indication of reopening communication with the Sussexes.
As Harry and Meghan continue their lives in California, speculation persists about whether the Duke of Sussex will ever repair his fractured ties with the monarchy—or if his “exile” has now become permanent.
