Meghan Markle Frustrated by Royal Protocols Restricting Her Movements at Nottingham Cottage

A former Kensington Palace staffer has claimed that some members of Buckingham Palace’s staff believed Meghan Markle would have been better suited for a role in the royal kitchens rather than as a Duchess.
Speaking to The Times, the ex-staffer shed light on Meghan’s reportedly unpredictable demeanor and her struggles adjusting to palace protocols. According to the insider, Meghan was particularly frustrated with the rigid scheduling required for royal life.
“Meghan quite rightly hated the fact that when she was in Nottingham Cottage, she had to agree well in advance what time she might leave for an appointment or an event and she had to make sure she didn’t leave at the same time as, or clash in any way with, a more senior royal leaving the palace,” the source revealed.
However, the biggest challenge for Meghan reportedly came from her interactions with palace staff. Royal commentator Tom Quinn, who reported on the staffer’s claims, explained that Meghan had a complicated relationship with the domestic staff.
“She both loved having everything done for her by the domestic staff and also hated it,” Quinn wrote, citing the ex-staffer’s observations. The worker also suggested that Meghan’s behavior toward staff could be unpredictable.
“One minute she would be really friendly, perhaps overfriendly, hugging staff and trying to make friends with them, and the next she would be irritated by the fact they wouldn’t respond instantly at all times of the day and night,” the staffer claimed.
This inconsistency reportedly led to tensions within the palace. “At times, it got so bad that I heard one of the senior staff mumbles that Meghan should really have been employed in the palace kitchens,” the source alleged.
The revelations offer another glimpse into the cultural and personal clashes Meghan faced within the royal household. Her transition into the monarchy was marked by scrutiny, with insiders often highlighting her struggle to conform to royal traditions.
Since stepping back from royal duties alongside Prince Harry in 2020, Meghan has remained at the center of royal controversies, with former staff continuing to share insights into her time at the palace. However, supporters argue that her approach was simply a reflection of her American background and independent nature—traits that may not have aligned with royal expectations.
