Trump’s ‘Purge List’ Targets National Archives Staff Over Mar-a-Lago Probe

Former President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to oust staff members at the National Archives who were involved in efforts to recover government documents from his Mar-a-Lago residence, according to Rolling Stone.

The report states that Trump has compiled a list of individuals at the agency he intends to fire as part of his broader pledge to seek retribution against critics and those connected to legal actions against him. This list reportedly includes officials directly involved in the document standoff, as well as some who had no direct role in the matter.

“There are some in Trump’s ear who want him to oust everybody on the list,” Rolling Stone reported. “There are others close to Trump, including some senior White House staff, who think the final list of Archives staff to dismiss should be more carefully curated, as there are some names on the initial list who they feel were just doing their jobs and not worthy of blackballing.”

One key name reportedly on Trump’s “purge list” is William Bosanko, the deputy archivist of the United States. However, sources within Trump’s circle have expressed concerns over the legality of removing certain government employees.

Despite those concerns, Rolling Stone notes that within Trump’s inner circle, there is a belief that legal or constitutional obstacles should not interfere with the former president’s plans. “It is the position of the upper crust of the second Trump administration that the law — and the Constitution — should not get in the way of what the president, and his purge-buddy Elon Musk, want to do,” the magazine reported.

The report emerges as the National Archives, a traditionally nonpartisan institution, braces for potential upheaval. Following the recent dismissal of its head, staff members are reportedly preparing for further personnel changes. According to a source cited by Rolling Stone, many at the agency see the purges as unavoidable.

“Staff at the agency are ‘talking in terms of inevitability,’” the source said. “It’s been grim.” As Trump continues to promise a broad shake-up of government institutions if re-elected, concerns are growing that his second term could be marked by an aggressive effort to remove officials he perceives as disloyal. Whether or not legal challenges will halt his plans remains to be seen.
