President Donald Trump expressed his gratitude to his wife, Melania Trump, during the National Governors Association dinner on Saturday, February 22, acknowledging her efforts in hosting the event. During his speech, Trump praised the former First Lady for her dedication in organizing the evening, as reported by the Daily Mail.
“Let me begin by expressing our gratitude to the First Lady of the United States for hosting the dinner,” he stated. “She worked very hard on making sure everything was beautiful. She’s very good at that… Thank you for doing such a great job, honey. Really great. Really beautiful,” he added.

The event, attended by governors from both parties, also gave Trump an opportunity to reflect on the future of national leadership. “Someday, somebody sitting in this room is probably going to be here for four or eight years. We don’t know who it is… I have some suspicions, but you never know, right?” he remarked playfully.
Trump emphasized his commitment to working with governors across party lines, regardless of political affiliation. “We have to get the job done for the people. You’re doing the job, and I’m doing the job… we’re working together,” he said. The 78-year-old leader encouraged governors to reach out to him personally, promising open communication and assistance.
“My number—write it into your wallets or on your person—because I am open to anybody, Republican or Democrat. If we can help, you’re going to call me up, and we’ll take care of it,” he assured. “You’ll call the secretaries, you’ll call the Cabinet members, but if they don’t do the job—and I think they will—you’ll call me, and we’ll take care of it.”

In a rare moment of praise for his political rivals, Trump acknowledged the capabilities of some Democratic leaders. “You have some really great talent on the other side. I won’t say how good some of the Democrats are, but some of you are doing a really great job,” he admitted.
Trump also gave a warm mention to Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance. “We have some people I’ve become very close to—Vice President Vance, Second Lady Usha Vance. Thank you very much, what a great start,” he said. Congratulating the newest governors in attendance, Trump highlighted the challenges of their roles.

“I have a tremendous respect for the burdens you bear—overseeing state police forces, directing disaster relief efforts,” he noted. He concluded his remarks with a message of unity and leadership. “This evening, we’re not Democrats or Republicans. We’re America’s chief executives to make our country run and run properly. I’m always just a phone call away,” Trump asserted.
Meanwhile, Trump supporters celebrated his public appreciation for Melania. One social media user remarked, “Throughout my lifetime, no other president has conveyed appreciation to the First Lady of the United States.” The evening served as a moment of bipartisan outreach while reinforcing Trump’s continued influence over national politics.
