WASHINGTON, D.C. — A California Democrat made headlines Tuesday night after abruptly leaving President Donald Trump’s address to Congress, denouncing his speech as “shameful” and sharing a profane reaction on social media.
Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-CA) walked out approximately 45 minutes into the address, stating that she could not continue listening to Trump’s remarks. She later confirmed her exit was made “on behalf of California’s 37th District.”

“There’s only so much bulls— a person can tolerate,” Kamlager-Dove posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. In a formal statement following the incident, Kamlager-Dove explained her presence at the event was to ensure lawmakers representing Americans’ best interests remained visible in the chamber. However, she stated that what she witnessed compelled her to leave.
“What I witnessed tonight was shameful,” she said. “I walked out of the Joint Address on behalf of the people of California’s 37th District — and because there is only so much bull — that a person can tolerate.” The congresswoman criticized Trump for delivering what she called blatant falsehoods, accusing him of entering the House chamber, looking lawmakers “in the eyes,” and “[lying] straight to our faces.”
She specifically pointed to his statements regarding federal healthcare programs, an issue of particular importance to her district, which has the fourth-largest Medicaid enrollment in the nation. “How dare he tell the 56% of my constituents who rely on Medicaid that their benefits are safe when his top legislative priority is cutting federal health care funding by up to $2.5 trillion,” she said.
Kamlager-Dove continued her fiery response by condemning the president’s economic policies, arguing that his proposals favor the ultra-wealthy at the expense of working-class Americans. “I won’t sit down and watch as he slashes the programs that keep my constituents alive so he can turn his Billionaire Boys Club into the Trillionaire Boys Club,” she declared.

The congresswoman ended her statement with a direct demand to Trump: “Stop the lies, stop the cheating, and stop the stealing — enough is enough.” “America deserves better,” she concluded.
Her protest was not the only moment of Democratic resistance during the address. Earlier in the night, Rep. Al Green (D-TX) was escorted from the chamber after interrupting the president, marking a night of heightened tensions between the two parties.
Kamlager-Dove’s walkout underscores the deep partisan divide in Washington as both sides brace for further political clashes ahead of the upcoming election season.
