WASHINGTON, D.C. — No president has begun a White House term with public approval ratings as low as Donald Trump’s, according to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. During her Thursday night broadcast, Maddow analyzed Trump’s polling numbers, predicting further declines as the full impact of his policies takes shape.
Maddow opened her show with a deep dive into Trump’s approval ratings, noting how they have deteriorated since his first week in office. “All presidents are above water at this point in their presidencies, right out of the gate,” she stated. “Trump’s the only one.

Trump has been underwater with the American public since day one, and since then, he’s been sinking like a cinder block in an ocean trench. I did not know to expect that.” The ongoing decline in Trump’s approval ratings could foreshadow significant political challenges for his administration. Maddow warned that the trend was unprecedented in modern American politics.
“All of this is absolutely, historically unprecedented,” she emphasized. “No president has ever come out of the gate with numbers like this ever before – and it is across the board.” Since taking office, Trump’s actions have only deepened public disapproval, Maddow argued. “Everything he has done has made the public dislike him even more strongly,” she stated.
She cited several controversial decisions, including his pardon of Jan. 6 attackers, mass firings of federal employees, and his policy proposals related to Gaza, as factors contributing to his declining popularity. “The stuff he’s doing is catastrophically unpopular,” Maddow asserted. “And the things he crows the loudest about are the things the American public likes the least.”

Maddow concluded by suggesting that Trump and his allies are pushing a radical agenda with rapid urgency. “They are trying to go as far as they can and as fast as they can,” she warned, “to abolish the constitutional republic and impose a new form of government.”
