Firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), chairwoman of the DOGE Oversight Subcommittee, took issue with House Democrats for what she described as taunts directed at President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and herself during a heated committee hearing on Wednesday. Following the contentious session, Greene criticized her Democratic colleagues on social media, accusing them of using the hearing for political attacks rather than focusing on the committee’s mission.
“Unfortunately, some of the Democrats in today’s @DOGECommittee ignored waste, fraud, and abuse,” Greene wrote. “Instead, they used their five minutes to attack President Trump, attack Elon Musk, and attack me. If they don’t change their tone, they are going to stay on the losing side of this issue.”

One of the most vocal Democrats at the hearing, Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), took direct aim at both Musk and Greene, making a spectacle that quickly drew national attention. “Now, I find it ironic, of course, that our chairwoman, Congresswoman Greene, is in charge of running this committee,” Garcia said during the hearing, told HuffPost.
“Now, in the last Congress, Chairwoman Greene literally showed a ‘d— pic’ in our oversight congressional hearing. So, I thought I’d bring one as well.” Garcia then held up a large, poster-sized photograph of Musk. “Now, this, of course, we know, is President Elon Musk,” he continued. “He’s also the world’s richest man. He was the biggest political donor in the last election.

He has billions of dollars in conflicts of interest.” Later, during an interview on CNN, anchor Brianna Keilar pressed Garcia on his approach. “Do you think that calling Elon Musk a ‘d—‘ is effective messaging for confronting what is potentially an irreversible transformation of the U.S. government?” she asked. “Well, he is a d—,” Garcia bluntly responded. “And I think he’s also harming the American public in an enormous way.”

Garcia defended his approach, arguing that Greene’s past behavior warranted a similar level of political pushback. “Marjorie Taylor Greene talks about having decorum, about bipartisanship,” Garcia said. “This is the person that lies more than anybody else in the entire Congress. And, so, if she is going to make a mockery of hearings, I want to make sure that we as Democrats are bringing that same level of energy.”
The fiery exchange underscores the deep divisions within the House Oversight Committee, where partisan clashes have become routine. As Greene and Musk continue to wield significant influence within the GOP, Democrats appear determined to counter their efforts with equally provocative tactics.
