Marjorie Taylor Greene Blames Biden’s Border Policy for New Orleans Attack, But Evidence Paints a Different Picture
In response to the tragic vehicle-ramming attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) quickly insinuated that the Biden administration’s border policy was to blame — a claim that now appears to be premature and unsupported by the facts.
“Terrorist attack in NOLA similar to the one in the German Christmas market,” Greene posted on X, referring to the deadly attack that left 10 dead and dozens more injured. “What did we expect would happen with wide open borders and millions of getaways? The problem is no one trusts the FBI under the current leadership, so everyone is questioning every detail they can find in their own. What an absolute disaster America is in.”
Greene’s post was followed by another one, which suggested that the suspect in the attack had recently crossed the U.S.-Mexico border. “New Orleans terrorist attacker is said to have come across the border in Eagle Pass TWO DAYS AGO!!! Shut the border down!!! Who did our government bomb lately that is taking it out on innocent Americans?” she wrote, echoing concerns about border security.
However, authorities have since confirmed that the suspected perpetrator, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was a U.S. citizen born in Texas.
While the truck used in the attack did have an ISIS flag attached, there is no evidence to suggest that Jabbar’s actions were linked to recent border crossings or the current administration’s policies on immigration. Investigators also believe that Jabbar may not have acted alone.
As of now, additional details about the attack remain scarce. However, NBC News reported that a woman who identified herself as Jabbar’s sister-in-law spoke to the press, expressing disbelief about his involvement. “It doesn’t make any sense. He’s the nicest person I’ve ever known,” the woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said. “I really don’t know what happened. He was a good man. He takes care of his children and everything.”
While the investigation continues, it seems Greene’s immediate reaction to blame the Biden administration’s border policy was premature, as further evidence points to other factors at play in the tragic incident.
