Lauren Boebert’s love story with Jayson Boebert is one of the more unconventional tales in politics. The couple’s relationship began in 2003 when Lauren was just 16 years old, working a shift at Burger King. It was there that she met 22-year-old Jayson and his friends, a meeting that would set her life on a surprising trajectory.

In her memoir My American Life, Lauren recalled the instant connection she felt. “Jayson just took my breath away, and I fell in love immediately,” she wrote, as reported by Business Insider. Despite the 6-year age difference raising eyebrows, Lauren defended their bond, pointing out that Colorado’s legal age laws allowed relationships between a 16-year-old and someone less than 10 years older.

Their relationship was so intense that, when Lauren was still 16, they tried to marry at Las Vegas’ A Little White Wedding Chapel, though they were refused due to her age. The couple officially married in June 2005, a year after Lauren gave birth to their first son, Tyler Boebert, according to The List. Lauren chose motherhood over completing her high school education, a decision she later framed as a pragmatic step for her family’s future.

However, their journey was not without its hurdles. In 2004, Jayson faced charges of public indecency following an incident at a bowling alley. Lauren, ever the protector, later described it as a misunderstanding due to his drunken state. The Boeberts’ entrepreneurial spirit led them to open Shooters Grill in 2013, a gun-themed restaurant where servers carried firearms.

The couple seemed to have a solid partnership, and in 2020, Lauren celebrated their 15th anniversary by calling Jayson “the most selfless man” she had ever met. She credited his support for her political career as instrumental in her success. However, things began to unravel. In May 2023, Lauren filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

The split was far from quiet. Jayson publicly accepted responsibility for their issues, admitting to cheating and urging people to be kind to Lauren. By January 2024, the situation had escalated further, with Lauren receiving a temporary restraining order against Jayson following a violent altercation at a restaurant that involved the police.

This dramatic turn in their relationship marks the end of what once seemed like a strong partnership, revealing that their troubles ran deeper than anyone had imagined.
