Ana Navarro Criticizes Fetterman for Mar-a-Lago Meeting: ‘It Feels Like He’s Yucking It Up’
Ana Navarro, co-host of The View, criticized Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) for his decision to meet with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, questioning the optics of the visit during a Monday panel discussion.
“I have to say, I don’t like the optics of him going down to Mar-a-Lago, because I think that’s become kind of like, you know, Donald Trump’s little palace,” Navarro said. “And it’s like trekking down to Mecca to see the prophet.”
Navarro expressed concern that the meeting gave the impression of camaraderie. “So I don’t like that,” she added. “And it feels like he’s yucking it up.”
While Navarro acknowledged the value of bipartisan relationships, she argued that Trump is an exception to normal political standards. “Bipartisan relationships used to be normal,” she said. “The problem is Donald Trump is not normal. And so what used to be normal becomes something that we talk about.”
Despite her criticism, Navarro conceded that Fetterman had reasons to meet with Trump but expressed reservations about his ability to hold the president-elect accountable. “In the end, I think he’s right to meet with Trump, but I worry that he won’t call out the abuses of power, that he won’t criticize him when there is legitimate criticism,” she explained.
Before the meeting, Fetterman joked that he hoped Trump would make him “pope of Greenland,” injecting humor into the politically charged gathering. Following their discussion, Trump praised Fetterman, though the specific topics of their conversation were not disclosed.
Navarro’s remarks highlight the delicate balance Democrats face when engaging with Trump, whose presidency and post-presidential influence have remained polarizing. While she did not outright condemn Fetterman’s choice to meet with Trump, her comments reflected broader concerns about normalizing interactions with a figure she described as far from typical in American politics.
