A tragic incident in Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia, has left a community in shock after 31-year-old Morgan Creel was indicted on charges of second-degree murder and cruelty to children in the death of her infant son, Carsynn Creel. Authorities allege that Creel fell asleep while using a hair dryer to warm her baby, resulting in fatal burns.

The heartbreaking discovery was made on November 9, 2023, when police responded to Creel’s home after she reported finding her baby “unresponsive” upon waking from a nap. Officers found Carsynn in a partially removed onesie, with severe burns and discoloration on the right side of his body, according to an affidavit obtained by Law & Crime.

Despite attempts to revive him, the infant was pronounced dead. Creel initially told police she had accidentally fallen asleep while using the hair dryer to warm her son. However, a grand jury indictment revealed that she was allegedly “under the influence of a controlled substance” at the time.

The legal document stated, per Fox 5, that Creel “did cause cruel and excessive physical and mental pain by leaving a blow-dryer on, and blowing heated air near said child while said accused was passed out and under the influence of a controlled substance.”

Records indicate that the temperature in Newnan on the day of the incident was 68°F, raising questions about the necessity of using a hair dryer to warm the child. Nearly a year after the tragedy, in October 2024, Creel was arrested during a traffic stop after reportedly “weaving” in traffic and failing a sobriety test.

This case follows another disturbing incident in Georgia, where 23-year-old Gloria Wright was arrested on suspicion of murdering her one-year-old son. Wright, who was pregnant at the time, fled to Rochester, New York after her child was found unresponsive in their home. According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, the U.S. Marshals apprehended Wright, who is accused of causing blunt force trauma to her son’s head.

An arrest warrant cited by WSB stated that a medical examiner concluded the child’s skull fractures “were not the result of an accidental fall or drop.” Wright’s arrest has further highlighted the devastating consequences of child abuse and neglect.

As Morgan Creel awaits her day in court, the case serves as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities of children and the tragic outcomes that can arise from negligence and alleged substance abuse. The community mourns the loss of young Carsynn while grappling with the unsettling details of his death.
