Jeremy Best, 50, has admitted to the brutal murders of his pregnant wife, Kali Randall Best, 39, and their 10-month-old son, Zeke Best, in a shocking case that unfolded in late 2023. Best pleaded guilty on February 13 to first-degree murder for Zeke’s death and second-degree murder for the deaths of Kali and their unborn child, Freya, according to a joint news release from Teton and Bonneville County prosecutors.

The chilling events began on November 30, 2023, when authorities received a call about a naked man walking through the Swan Valley General Store in Swan Lake, Idaho. The man, later identified as Best, was taken to a hospital for evaluation but was treated and released. Hours later, Kali was found unresponsive at the couple’s home in Victor after a 911 dispatcher heard a “disturbance” during a call.

In the background of the call, a man could be heard saying, “Get the f**k back, you’re going to get shot,” followed by, “I love you, love you, love you,” according to an affidavit. Kali was fatally shot and pronounced dead at the scene. When authorities realized Zeke was missing, they issued an Amber Alert and named Best as a suspect in both his wife’s death and the alleged kidnapping of their son.

Two days later, hunters near Idaho Falls found Best in a sleeping bag on the side of a snowy road. Nearby, they discovered Zeke’s body with his throat cut. Best’s black Chevy SUV was also found parked down an embankment. Best’s attorney, Jim Archibald, claimed his client suffered a mental breakdown that led to the murders, as reported by People.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty, but Best could still face life in prison. Best is scheduled to be sentenced on July 23, marking a grim conclusion to a case that has shaken the Idaho community.
