56-Year-Old Texas Grandmother Caught Poisoning 7-Year-Old Granddaughter by Injecting Degreaser into Feeding Tube
A 56-year-old Texas woman, Lisa Campbell-Goins, has been accused of poisoning her 7-year-old granddaughter in a chilling case of Munchausen by proxy syndrome. Authorities arrested Campbell-Goins last week on charges of child exploitation, injury to a child, and unlawful restraint.
She is being held at the Tarrant County Corrections Center on a $150,000 bond, according to Law&Crime. The investigation began after the young girl, who had been under Campbell-Goins’ care since infancy, developed unexplained gastrointestinal issues, including ulcers and damage to her colon and intestines. Family members grew suspicious and reported their concerns to authorities.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by KDFW, investigators believe Campbell-Goins administered an alkaline-like substance, possibly a degreaser, through the child’s feeding tube. The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office identified the case as medical child abuse linked to Munchausen by proxy syndrome.
This rare condition occurs when a caregiver fabricates or induces illness in a child to gain attention or sympathy. Detectives allege that Campbell-Goins deliberately caused the girl’s medical issues, potentially to solicit donations via a GoFundMe account.
The affidavit states that in August 2023, Campbell-Goins brought her granddaughter to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, citing severe dehydration, vomiting, and diarrhea. Despite medical intervention, doctors were puzzled by symptoms that did not align with any known medical diagnosis.
The child’s condition briefly improved but deteriorated again after the insertion of a gastric feeding tube, reportedly at Campbell-Goins’ insistence. By January 2024, family members alerted authorities, suspecting she was poisoning the girl. When Campbell-Goins was removed from the hospital, the girl’s health significantly improved, according to the National Institutes of Health.
Investigators later discovered evidence suggesting Campbell-Goins had used Mean Green Degreaser and possibly fingernail polish remover in her abuse. Sedatives were also reportedly used to control the child. This is not Campbell-Goins’ first brush with accusations of medical abuse. In 1999, she was accused of overmedicating her son and was ordered to attend parenting classes, KDFW reported.
Authorities are urging anyone who contributed to Campbell-Goins’ alleged fraudulent GoFundMe campaign to contact Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office Detective Michael Weber at 817-884-3749. The investigation remains ongoing, as the community grapples with the shocking allegations of betrayal and abuse.
