The death of 23-year-old British woman Lucy Harrison, who was fatally shot at her father’s home in Texas, has left her family and community devastated. A coroner confirmed that Lucy died from a gunshot wound to the chest, ruling that she “was shot by another person.”

The Prosper Police Department is investigating the case as a “criminally negligent homicide,” with a suspect and five witnesses—including two children—identified, according to Daily Mail. Lucy, a former student at Great Sankey High School in Warrington, England, was remembered by her school as a “bright and dedicated” individual.

In a heartfelt statement, the school said, “Lucy was a well-liked and valued member of our school community during her time here. She will be remembered for her hard work, dedication to her studies, and her friendly and positive presence. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this most difficult time.”

An autopsy report by Dr. Chester Gwin, assistant county medical examiner for Collin County, revealed that Lucy died from a single gunshot wound fired by another person. The report also confirmed that Lucy tested negative for alcohol and drugs. She was pronounced dead at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Texas shortly before 4 p.m. on January 10, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Lucy was visiting her father, Kris Harrison, who lives in Texas and has family ties to Southport, England. Following her death, Lucy’s mother and boyfriend paid tribute to her, describing her as someone who “unashamedly loved.” In a statement released by Cheshire Police, they said, “Lucy was life. She lived it fiercely and fearlessly, not being afraid to feel all that life has to offer.

She adored travel and experiencing new places, yet she also loved snuggling up at home in her pajamas. She was truly thriving in life, and although this gives us great comfort, we are utterly heartbroken at the loss of our beautiful, gorgeous Luce.”
