14-Year-Old Girl Found Dead in Snow, Family Slams ‘Cruel and Evil’ Alleged Killer
A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Indianapolis over the weekend as 14-year-old Deandra Staples was found shot dead and abandoned in the snow near the Laurelwood Apartments on the city’s south side. Family members are demanding justice for what they describe as a heinous and senseless act.
“For any child to think it’s cool to pull a pistol and take another life, think again because you will be held accountable,” said Ramona Griffin, Deandra’s grandmother, speaking to WRTV. Detectives discovered Deandra’s snow-covered body on Saturday, sparking grief and outrage among her family and community.
Griffin condemned the unknown assailant’s actions, questioning the inhumanity behind the crime. “How could you be that cruel and evil? To shoot this baby in her head and leave her in the snow. What could she have done that made you hate her so much?” she asked.
The family alleges that Deandra was deliberately lured from her home, less than a mile away, and murdered. Griffin said, “They knew she was a minor; they lured her out of my home, and they killed my baby.”
Deandra remembered as a bright and talented young girl, was a standout performer on the G3 Steppers, a local community dance team. “She was the star; she was the one who brightened up people’s lives,” Griffin said.
Maranda Sanders, co-founder of G3 Steppers, described Deandra as a force to be reckoned with. “She was definitely small, but mighty,” Sanders told IndyStar. “You couldn’t always see her, but you could hear her. She gave 110% when she was at practice and when she was performing.” Deandra joined the team at age 11 and has been a dedicated member for four years.
The Marion County Youth Violence Prevention Coalition expressed sorrow over the loss of Deandra in a statement: “It is with deep sorrow and heartbreak that we acknowledge the tragic loss of 14-year-old Deandra Staples, who was found senselessly shot and killed… No child should ever have to face such a tragic fate. We stand in solidarity with the family and extend our deepest condolences.”
Deandra’s family hopes for swift justice and urges others to treasure their loved ones. “Just be safe, love your family,” said Manuel Staples, a family member. Authorities are continuing to investigate the murder, seeking answers and accountability for this senseless crime.
