Jameela Jamil is facing criticism after making a controversial remark on social media regarding the alleged murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The 38-year-old actress and activist commented under a post by Saint Hoax on Instagram, which identified Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old suspect charged in the shooting.

Alongside a shirtless photo of Mangione hiking, the post read, “Person of interest in CEO shooting identified as Luigi Mangione,” with the caption, “They (allegedly) got him.” Jamil stirred backlash by writing, “A star is born,” under the post. The comment quickly sparked mixed reactions among her followers.

While some criticized the Good Place star for being insensitive, one user described her remark as “shameful.” Others, however, defended Jamil’s sense of humor. One fan playfully responded, “You made my wig leave my body.” Mangione has since been formally charged with the murder of Thompson following his arrest at a McDonald’s.

Authorities have also charged him with gun and forgery offenses. The family of the suspect issued a statement addressing the tragedy: “Our family is shocked and devastated by Mangione’s arrest. We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson, and we ask people to pray for all involved.”

Jamil, known for her outspoken activism and unapologetic presence on social media, has yet to respond to the backlash over her comment. Critics argue that her remark was poorly timed and inappropriate, particularly given the gravity of the situation.

The incident highlights the fine line public figures must tread when engaging with sensitive news online. While some viewed Jamil’s comment as lighthearted or satirical, others felt it crossed a boundary, diminishing the seriousness of a tragic event.

As the case unfolds, Mangione’s arrest and Thompson’s death continue to dominate headlines, leaving both families—and the broader community—grappling with the shocking events. Jamil’s remark has ignited broader discussions about the role of humor in addressing real-life tragedies and the responsibility celebrities bear when commenting on sensitive issues in the public eye.
