More than two decades after their highly publicized divorce, Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin appear to be in a good place. In a rare interview, the L.A. Confidential actress revealed that despite their past, the former couple now share a respectful and cordial relationship.

“Alec and I have a great relationship,” Basinger told Variety in an interview published on Feb. 25—her first in over two years. “I have great respect for where he is today, and his family.”

That family includes Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria Baldwin, and their seven children. While Basinger, 71, and Baldwin, 66, don’t maintain a close-knit blended family dynamic, the actress emphasized that they remain in contact.

“You know, we don’t spend Christmases and holidays or see each other very much,” she admitted. “But we talk. He’ll pick up the phone and call me, and we have a very genuinely cordial and I think loving relationship in a lot of ways, just because we share a daughter, and I don’t wish him anything but everything good.”

Basinger and Baldwin, who were married from 1993 to 2002, share a daughter, Ireland Baldwin, 28. Their divorce was famously tumultuous, with a lengthy custody battle that made headlines for years. However, Basinger’s recent comments suggest that time has softened the tension between them.

The actress also acknowledged Baldwin’s recent challenges, particularly in the aftermath of the Rust film set tragedy. “He’s been through a lot lately,” she noted, before offering praise for his wife, Hilaria. “She seems to have a great handle on that. So more power to her.”

Baldwin has yet to publicly respond to Basinger’s remarks, but this isn’t the first time she has spoken about their post-divorce peace. In 2016, she told The Edit that they were “cool now,” while reflecting on the difficulties of their split. “Divorce is hard on a kid, no matter how you cut it. And ours was very public and nasty,” she admitted at the time.

Thankfully, it seems that time has helped mend old wounds, with both Basinger and Baldwin moving forward in their respective lives while maintaining a sense of mutual respect.
