Harry and Meghan will ‘make a commercial move into the TV industry following their Netflix docuseries success
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are rumored to be considering a future in television following the success of their Netflix documentary.
The pair are said to have recruited a “Hollywood dealmaker” in order to “make a commercial move” into the TV and film industries, where Meghan will presumably feel well at home.
Meghan, 41, was recognized for her role as Rachel Zane in American legal drama suits before marrying into the royal family, and she has appeared in films including Remember Me, Horrible Bosses, and Get Him to the Greek.
Meghan and Harry have not only released their own Netflix docuseries since leaving the UK in 2020 to start a new life in California but they have also been questioned by US talk show host Oprah Winfrey, who pressed them about their time in The Firm in March 2021.
Following the success of their joint television ventures and the release of Harry’s explosive book Spare, which reached shelves across the world in January, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are apparently considering additional media deals.
A celebrity expert told The Mirror that there is “an appetite for the Duke and Duchess” in the US and that former actress Meghan is likely to “move back into TV”.
The claims come following reports that Harry and Meghan had hired Ellen DeGeneres’s broker, Adam Lilling, who previously worked with Nicole Kidman.
“PR to the stars,” Mayah Riaz told The Mirror: “It would be naive to not expect Harry and Meghan to make a commercial move post their Netflix series and Spare.
“The Netflix series was tailored for the American audience and it shows that there is an appetite for the Duke and Duchess in the states.”
Adam, Harry and Meghan’s latest recruit, was named one of the top Hollywood dealmakers last year. In the past, he has declared his aim is making “profit opportunities”.
Mayah continued: “Meghan had a career before moving into the Royal Family. Now that they are not working Royals, should this mean that she should not make a move back into TV? I don’t think so.”
On the topic of Meghan’s next move, Mayah said: “She may not take a role in a long-running series. However, I absolutely can see her making a cameo.
“I think the majority of the public in the UK will hate them making any sort of commercial moves. But what do they expect?
“They need to work, their security bill runs into the millions and they, rightly so, are not taking a penny from UK taxpayers. However, they very much know who their audience is and they are catering to a non-UK audience – we saw that from the Netflix series.”
Mayah also claims that the Duke and Duchess’ PR is “not harmed for the US market”. She added: “In fact, Netflix was an indicator of something more.
“People may not have liked it, but they did watch it and it was the highest-viewed Netflix series. Harry’s book was the fastest-selling non-fiction book ever.
“If they have hired Adam Liling, then I believe that is a smart move and from a PR point, I fully expected them to have that sort of support. They are not catering to the UK market.”
