Duke’s Invictus Games success and father’s illness shifted royal dynamics, and Prince Harry’s potential reentry into royal duties has once again captured public attention. The Duke of Sussex, who stepped down from senior royal responsibilities alongside his wife Meghan Markle in 2020, recently showed signs of rekindling ties with the royal family.

Notably, Harry shone in early February during Canada’s Invictus Games, a sporting event for wounded and disabled service members. His enthusiastic support for the athletes was on full display—he mingled with participants, cheered on teams, and received a standing ovation at the closing ceremony.

His visible joy and dedication raised speculation about his future role in royal life. Amid these developments, Sir Trevor McDonald, the respected journalist and former ITV News at Ten anchors, suggested that the royal family might consider repairing its fractured relationship with Harry.

Speaking to Saga magazine, McDonald lamented Harry’s absence from the working monarchy, saying, “It’s a great shame that Prince Harry is no longer part of the working monarchy. We cannot afford to lose someone so young, so full of energy and so imbued with the charitable instincts that are at the core of our Royal Family.”

Having met Harry multiple times, McDonald described him as “unfailingly friendly, honest and genuine,” drawing comparisons to the late Princess Diana. He also noted that Meghan Markle, despite her outsider status, “could have brought a new dimension to the monarchy.” He added, “She was never given a chance to prove herself.”

The timing of these comments is significant, as King Charles continues to face health challenges. Harry’s efforts to reconnect may reflect his concern for his father and a desire to mend familial bonds. While Buckingham Palace has been focusing on promoting the royal family’s visibility through numerous engagements, McDonald hinted that Harry’s energy and enthusiasm would have greatly benefited these efforts.
