Savannah Chrisley Opens Up About Struggles Raising Siblings After Parents’ Imprisonment

Savannah Chrisley has spoken candidly about the immense struggles she has faced over the past two years since becoming the legal guardian of her younger siblings, Chloe, 12, and Grayson, 18. The reality star stepped into the role after her parents, Todd and Julie Chrisley, were sentenced to prison for bank fraud and tax evasion in 2022.

The sudden responsibility, along with the financial burden of legal expenses, has pushed Savannah Chrisley into a whirlwind of working multiple jobs while also fighting for her parents’ release. “I wasn’t expecting to get two kids,” Savannah shared in an interview with People.

“Between that and legal expenses to fight for my parents, I am just like anyone else out there. Sure, I put a smile on my face. I look the part, I play the part. But it doesn’t mean I actually am the part,” she said. The former Chrisley Knows Best star, who first gained fame on the hit reality show in 2014, revealed that she has struggled financially since her parents’ imprisonment and has taken on multiple jobs to support her family.

“I’ve had to work multiple jobs. I sell houses. I do podcasting. I do social media influencing. I do anything that comes my way,” Chrisley explained. “I’m no better than anyone else out here, to have to struggle. And I am not lazy,” she added.

“I know that I have two kids to provide for, and I know I have two parents that I need to get home. So, I’ll work my ass off till the wee hours of the morning if I have to. It’s just who I am,” she said. Chrisley reflected on how much her life has changed since her teenage years.

“I was like any other teenager who got on TV and had money. I spent it like it was never going to end,” she admitted. The reality of her new life hit her hard when she prepared to visit her father, Todd Chrisley, at Federal Prison Camp Pensacola in Florida for the first time.

“I just remember Chloe’s room was a mess. I didn’t know what you had to wear. They’re super strict on guidelines for visitation wardrobe,” Chrisley recalled. Recounting the moment, she said, “I just remember falling to the floor, and I was like, ‘I can’t do this. I am not my mom. I cannot do this.’

Then I just sat there, and I was like, ‘If I don’t do it, who else will?’ And I picked myself up, got their clothes, and we went on our way. … You figure it out.” “I’ve always said, ‘God meant for me to be a mom.’ So, there are a lot of things that just come naturally to me. But it’s a learning process, for sure,” the 27-year-old shared.

Grayson, now enrolled at the University of Alabama, has been “a huge help” to Chrisley, but his absence has made caring for Chloe “a little bit more challenging.”

“Me, Chloe, and Grayson tackle everything together. Grayson had to grow up so fast, and I hate it, but he says, ‘You saved me. I don’t know what Chloe and I would’ve done without you.’ And I look at him, and I’m like, ‘He saved me more times than I can count,’” Chrisley said.
