Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s six children—Maddox, 23; Pax, 20; Zahara, 19; Shiloh, 18; and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16—have reportedly had little to no contact with their paternal grandparents in recent years. Following Jolie and Pitt’s high-profile divorce in 2016, the family has largely kept to themselves.

A source close to Jolie told PEOPLE that while the children haven’t been in touch with Pitt’s parents, it’s not due to any restrictions from Jolie. “Angelina has not blocked any communications or relationships; rather, she encourages them to be in touch with their grandparents,” the source said.

Despite the distance, the children have maintained thoughtful gestures toward their grandparents. “The kids send cards and gifts to their grandparents every year for their birthdays and Christmas,” the insider shared.

In recent years, Jolie has worked hard to create a stable and fulfilling life for her children. “In the past few years, she’s been able to create a life for herself and the kids that make them all happy,” said the source. “It was a struggle for a while, but Angie is proud of how resilient and strong the kids are. They are her biggest supporters too. The kids are all amazing.”

The insider also emphasized that Jolie is focused on moving forward and leaving the past behind. “Being stuck in the past is not anything that Angie wants. She’s actively moving beyond the past. She wants to focus on her family, work, and the future. These are all things that make her happy.”

Jolie’s commitment to her family and their well-being remains her top priority. While the connection with Pitt’s family may not be as strong as it once was, Jolie is reportedly fostering an environment where her children can thrive emotionally and build meaningful relationships on their terms.
