Whoopi Goldberg Following Ellen DeGeneres and Moving to the UK, Viral Rumor Confirmed as Satire
A recent rumor claiming that The View host Whoopi Goldberg plans to relocate to the United Kingdom, following Ellen DeGeneres’ reported move, has taken the internet by storm. However, closer investigation reveals that the claims are purely satirical.
The speculation began after a Facebook post from @spaceX Fanclub shared a collage of Goldberg and DeGeneres with the headline, “Ellen DeGeneres and Whoopi Goldberg head to England, leave the US: ‘No Respect Here.'” The post, which appeared on November 22, quickly gained traction, accumulating over 2,300 comments and 178 shares.
The viral claim referenced an article on the satire website ESSPOTS.com, which falsely reported that Goldberg and DeGeneres, described as “longtime advocates for social justice,” had “officially announced their decision to leave the United States and relocate to England.” The article even included a fabricated quote attributed to Goldberg: “I’ve spent years trying to wake people up. But now? Now I need some sleep—and I’m not going to find it in America.”
The claims seemed to align with DeGeneres’ actual relocation to the UK, as reported by the New York Post. However, Goldberg’s involvement is entirely fictional. Despite her outspoken frustration over Donald Trump’s recent 2024 presidential election victory, Goldberg has made no official statements about leaving the U.S.
The rumor gained additional momentum due to Goldberg’s comments on The View on November 6, where she expressed disappointment over Trump’s return to office. However, the original post from @spaceX Fanclub was marked as “rated satire,” a fact many viewers overlooked. The profile explicitly states, “We post SATIRE, nothing on this page is real.”
The affiliated ESSPOTS.com website further clarifies its satirical nature. Its “About Us” section and disclaimers confirm that all content is fictional, and intended solely for entertainment. “Before you proceed to read our content, we would like to emphasize that nothing on this website is real,” the disclaimer reads, as per The Variety.
While Ellen DeGeneres has indeed moved to the UK with wife Portia de Rossi, the rumor about Goldberg following suit is entirely false. The viral story serves as a reminder to verify information before accepting it as fact, especially when satire is involved. Goldberg remains in the U.S., with no official plans to relocate.
