Their history of tension stretches back to the infamous 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video. Grabbing the microphone mid-sentence, he declared:
“Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’m let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.” Although West initially apologized for the outburst, he later retracted his apology, fueling an ongoing rift between the two artists. Swift, who had initially been excited to receive her award, was left stunned by the interruption.
While the two appeared to make amends at the 2015 Grammy Awards, their fragile truce collapsed the following year when West released his song Famous, which contained controversial lyrics about Swift. The singer and her team condemned the track, reigniting their feud.
Despite their rocky past, West—now known as Ye—allegedly hoped to reconnect with Swift at this year’s Grammy Awards, held at Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles. According to sources, Ye’s team actively tried to arrange an encounter between him and Swift on the red carpet. However, insiders claim that no one was interested in making the meeting happen.
“No one wanted to help,” a source told The Sun. “They didn’t want to create a potentially weird situation.” The source added that West’s team had been gathering information about Swift’s entrance plans and seating arrangements in an attempt to orchestrate a chance meeting in front of cameras. “He wanted to try and bump into her and chat in front of the cameras,” the source said.
The reported attempt to stage a public interaction followed another headline-grabbing moment from Ye and his wife, Bianca Censori. The couple stunned onlookers with a bold red carpet appearance, further adding to the buzz surrounding West’s Grammy night ambitions.
Ultimately, Swift remained unaware of Ye’s efforts, and the highly anticipated photo-op never materialized. Instead, the night belonged to Swift, who made history by winning Album of the Year for a record-breaking fourth time.
